The Artiaga Family

The Artiaga's are a super sweet family with such genuine heart!  We had the opportunity to FINALLY shoot after waiting so long to shoot one of those amazingly sunny and beautiful days back in May.  We met at Kubota Gardens in Renton and rocked it.  I love their sweet baby boy who gave out besos and hugs everytime we asked.  His super genuine excitement and love for bubbles warmed my heart.  I love the sweet little unit they have established and look forward to getting to know them better. A few pictures from our session below!

Stylized Shoot: Bella Signature Designs, Las Vegas Pt 1

I feel like I have been sitting on these images- but I am so glad I finally get to post them!!  Remember a couple weeks back when I said we were published for the first time??!  Well, this was the shoot.  A stylized shoot with Daniela Faget of Bella Signature Designs out in Las Vegas, NV during WPPI 2011. I got the opportunity to shoot for Daniela with about 20 other photographers one very hot Monday in February.  It was full sun, right around noon and I had no reflector or flash.  We practiced shooting quickly, with lots of different photographers around, we practiced finding angles, and Daniela taught us what publishers look for when submitting a wedding.

This post will come in 3-4 parts, this being the first and the hardest situation for me to shoot in FULL SUN, NO SHADE. Ack.  I have learned so much since WPPI and so appreciated coming away from Vegas with this experience under my belt.

Shout out to my friend, Laura Marchbanks, who is the model featured below (remember 4-week wedding via Jasmine Star, well Daniela= wedding planner + Laura= real bride). You can check out Laura's work, who happens to be a photographer here:  and Daniela's work here:

More coming soon!

Annie's Tea Party Bridal Shower: Boise, Idaho

I did a bit of traveling this week and headed to Boise Idaho for a quick surprise visit to one of my friends and one of our 2011 brides.  Late last year as we were building our Facebook fan page, I noticed posts from a beautiful woman out of Idaho with the most striking blue eyes.  I remember wondering who she was  and how she found us and why she was a photographer when she could easily be a model.  After weeks of FB posting, we took our conversations to Skype and then she came for a visit.  Another sleepover situation, led to our trip to Vegas at WPPI, her hiring Isaiah and I to be her wedding photographer and a very close friendship. My dear friend Annie and I have walked this photography owner self employment thing out day to day the last six months.  When I say day to day… I’m not talking a couple of times a week and a few prayers- I’m talking day to day, hours of company as we wake up everyday and meet at our computers to Skype thru our work days.  She is my co-worker, the person I bounce ideas off of, my confidant.  We eat lunch together, we encourage each other, cry together and push each other to be better.  Annie is the 3rd member of the LHP team based in Idaho WA and I know that she feels the same about me when it comes to her business.  As her bridesmaids were prepping for her bridal shower, a tea party theme, they contacted me and asked if I would be willing to surprise Annie and to show up.  They talked about how valued I was in Annie’s life and how they knew it wouldnt be complete if I didnt show up.  I am so thankful for her good friends who admire the good friends in Annie’s life and I am so thankful for the opportunity to finally rock Annie’s world and meet all the people who make her who she is.

I flew into Boise Saturday morning and surprised my sweet friend.  With my summer dress and tea party hat she screamed when she saw me and it so validated this bond we have.  When I got to the airport that morning, one of her best friends Sonia was carrying a sign “Nikon Gangsta” so that I would know who she was… as I made my way down the escalator I screamed with excitement at how clever and thoughtful she was.  Needless to say, all of Annie’s friends ARE NOW my friends too and I am even more thankful for her then I was before.

Below a few pictures from Annie's amazing tea party!  Shout out to Sonia, Becky and Karen on a amazing job well done!

"Virginia is for Lovers" : Johnson/Mabry Destination Wedding Sneak Peek {Tacoma Wedding Photographer, Tacoma WA}

Isaiah and I were so excited when Kamala + Brandon implied they wanted us to shoot their wedding last fall in Richmond, VA and thought they were joking, until they called us up and made it official.  It is and was our very first destination booking and although the destination wasn't the typical "cool" spot with palm trees, it was just perfect for us, because it meant we go to do what we loved in a place where we are loved, our second home. We flew all night on a red-eye last Wednesday and met Kamala and Brandon Thursday for a full morning of wedding venue tours and "catch-up."  The more she talked the more excited I got listening.  I knew they thought about every detail and really planned a beautiful wedding.  Friday evening came and we met the families and bridal party and my energy rose- everyone was so beautiful and had the perfect amount of swag- I could only imagine what the next day was going to be like.  I tossed and turned all night thinking about poses and locations and how badly I wanted to make sure we did a great job for Brandon + Kamala.  I mean, they flew us all the way to the East coast-we had to knock it out of the park.  I am happy to say that I think we did.

Kamala's bridesmaids look so refreshing in mustard yellow dresses accented by pearls and Brandon's groomsmen's classic in their black tuxes.  There were 20+ members in the bridal party- one of the biggest we have ever had!  The wedding was beautiful, held at St. Paul's Baptist Church in Southside Richmond, followed with a gorgeous reception at Sheraton South.  I loved Kamala and Brandon's centerpieces tall and short centerpieces with beautiful fresh lemons as the focus surrounded by bright greens.

The highlight of the night- the line dances, everyone young and old was on the dance floor as the DJ spun his hits- I have never seen so many people dancing at a wedding in my life!  Made my heart happy.

Thank you so much Brandon + Kamala for the opportunity for us to share in your special day, Congratulations!!

I am so thrilled to annouced that LHP has been published!!  OK OK... its not a super huge BIG deal but its so exciting for us because it was one of our goals this year and we can proudly say that we accomplished it EVEN if its small. Because of my sweet honey's amazing networking skills- I got the opportunity to participate in a stylized shoot with Daniela of Bella Signature Designs in Las Vegas back in February!  I have yet to release the images because the shoots were being pitched, but just recently found out this week that Junebug Weddings LOVED what we did and published our shoot on their blog.  There were 50+ photographers who participated in the different shoots- so the likelihood that I would even make the cut amongst so much talent was pretty slim- BUT- one of my images made it + it makes me estatic!!

Want to be inspired- check out both Junebug and Bella Signature Designs- the inspiration on each of these sites in absolutely spectacular!!  As soon as I get the go ahead I cannot wait to share the rest of my images here:
