The Adore's: What three little girls taught me about sisterhood {Tacoma Family Portrait Photographer, Tacoma, WA}

The title of this post is called "The Adore's," affectionately titled after the middle name that all three of these girls carry. Adore: love dearly, love, be devoted to, dote on, hold dear, cherish, treasure, prize, think the world of

These three girls.  These three girls who I love so much and who I absolutely cherish and adore.

Lyric, Honour and my Wisdom.

Wisdom turned three this summer.  All she ever wants is to be with Lyric and Honour.   Lyric and Honour are my nieces.  They came to visit, and we couldn't resist an impromptu photo shoot.

Lyric is turning 8 in January and Honour just celebrated her second birthday.  The bond they have.  It's almost like it was destined.

Lyric was born first, her mother, my sister Melinda, gave her the middle name "Sa'rah Adore."

When I became pregnant with Wisdom, as her godmother, I knew Melinda had to give Wisdom her middle names - and when she chose to include "Adore," it was so special to me.  I know the power of a name, and to have her be a namesake meant so much.  So "Melan-Adore" is what we got.  Melan, after Melinda and "Adore" after Lyric.

When Melinda became pregnant with Honour, it only made sense to keep it going, and so we get: Honour- Smile Adore.

These three little girls.  These three precious girls, who haven't been on this earth yet eight years have taught me so much about love.  Loving fiercely.  About commitment.  About devotion.

They see each other seldom, but they remember each other always. So many mornings, I wake up to Wisdom asking for and pleading to see Honour and Lyric, wanting her hair like Lyric's, her toys like Honour, wanting to share her food with two girls who are easily 800 miles and a 12 hour drive away.

It doesn't matter how long its been, or what has happen, they are ALWAYS ALWAYS her first choice.  No matter what friends she's around or what she is experiencing, she always wants Lyric and Honour to be a part of it.  And that devotion is not one sided.

There are letters sent with best laid plans of elaborate parties, and checklist, that include Wisdom as the number one guest.  There are voicemails left, VERY long voicemails, from California explaining what happened that day in school - all for Wisdom.

These girls teach me so much about relationship.  About friendship planted deep in your heart.  About moments, never missed and time that stands still.

Because even at their young age, there is something that has told them that they are better together than apart.  That they should look out for each other.  That they exist to stand together, instead of alone.

and these pictures, these pictures tell the story of their precious relationship.  They say what they may not be able to articulate just yet.  That they adore one another and that they are there for each other, no matter the circumstance or the distance.

Every year, Melinda and I take the girls on a "Mother-Daughter-Sister-Cousin" trip and it has become a tradition that I look forward to the most.

I pray that they ALWAYS have memories.  That they always delight in each other and that they ALWAYS choose to ADORE one another, the way I do my sister and best friend.

Cheers to girls who understand we need each other to make it.

I am so thankful.

Happy New Year, love Wisdom | Tacoma, WA {Tacoma Portrait Photographer}

There is nothing more exciting about closing out a year and entering a new one - then knowing that it ends and begins with her.  Twenty13 was incredible - so many things happen, so many dreams were realized, but nothing made it more incredible then spending the year getting to know this one!   She is pure joy, a daily dose of confetti, endless smiles and pure heart! Cheers to twenty14 with a lot of "Wisdom." 1510994_10152162761476742_1402528800_n 1185447_10152162761471742_20718990_n 1484371_10152162761211742_1728038321_n 1486746_10152162761676742_1692125731_n 1497769_10152162760976742_1033631260_n 1499603_10152162761011742_1741796007_n 1517555_10152162761716742_1379552208_n 1544594_10152162761926742_1318990524_n 1508088_10152162761986742_1562802345_n 1505387_10152162761896742_1967855438_n 1505068_10152162761196742_1587121844_n 1546195_10152162761626742_2049759749_n 1557610_10152162761786742_629512817_n 1513264_10152162761396742_1597466327_n 1524819_10152162761226742_2145725941_n 1533854_10152162762106742_1227680770_n 1488289_10152162762151742_570271355_n 1489048_10152162762206742_1976348567_n

Wisdom's Time Capsule 1st Birthday Party {Tacoma Portrait Photographer, Tacoma, WA}

I can't even begin to explain how odd it is that we have a one year old.  I feel like it was last week that I was heading to my midwife to meet my precious girl and now she's a toddler.  I can say for sure it has been one of the most challenging, rewarding, joyful and incredible years for me as a woman to fully come into what it means to be a mother.  To have your heart on the outside of your body.  To worry, to love, to cherish to understand the Father's love for us through parenthood.  Wisdom has indeed blessed our lives and I am continually in awe of her, who she is, her personality, her cheerful spirit and the way she captivates, not only my heart, but the heart of so many.  She has truly blessed our lives and its feels like such a priviledge to watch her grow....  and to grow alongside her. Naturally, I couldn't miss a opportunity to have a event to celebrate my girl, but with so much happening it life, it seemed the days continued to pass and I had nothing.  I struggled with the purpose behind a first birthday. I let people talk me out of it, talk me into it, challenge me.  We thought about a bounce house party, a petting zoo, doing nothing at all, but I knew that I had to do something because THIS GIRL..... this girl deserves the world and if I can give it to her, I always will!  I know that Wisdom will likely NEVER remember her first birthday, but I wanted to do something that would make it memorable.  Come up with some theme that would allow us to freeze time and that's when I thought about a time capsule.

We gave Wisdom a time capsule party.  We sent out a invite well in advance, letting people know that Wisdom would have a time capsule and that we wanted them to bring a special trinket, or note, or gift that she might appreciate to chronicle this special time in her life.  We would then give Wisdom this time capsule in 2028 on her 16th birthday.  Guest brought gifts that were really touching, some we saw and some wrapped tightly with "Happy Sweet 16th Wisdom" on the card, or envelope or packaging.  Wisdom recieved so many precious and beautiful time capsule gifts, her first charm bracelet, a thumb drive with a hit song from Taylor Swift, a amethyst rock. Guest were also encouraged to make predictions about Wisdom on different pieces of paper,  what she would look like, who she would act like, what her interest would be.  They also got to guess on the price of gas, the cost of a stamp, and whether Facebook would still be the IT place to be in 2028.  Such a special day for my girl.... that she will likely never remember, but will get to enjoy in 15 years, as she reflects on her purpose and our love for her in every detail.

The menu included some of Wisdom's favorite foods: grilled cheese skewers and tomato soup for dipping, blueberries on a stick, veggies in ranch cups, corn dogs, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and mini meatball burgers for easy grabbing for little people, just to name a few.  The dessert table included a beautiful ombre two tier vanilla and raspberry cake, with a sparkly fondant "1" on top with a variety of fun sweets, including Smore Bites, Brown Cow mix: white chocolate pretzels, marshmellows and kettle corn, donuts, and a variety of other sweet treats.

Guest were given two gifts: there very own time capsule and animal crackers in mason jars!

Because Wisdom's party was about the future, we used pictures to tell the story of her past - and used 250+ pictures to decorate the entire party!  It was so fun to see how far she has grown and come in the the last year!

Special thanks to my sister, Melinda Watts for her creative genuis and hard work.  Planning this party with her was so special and meant so much!  This is our fifth event together and I am always excited with the outcome, this party was no different.  Also shout out to Mr. Haynes and Aaron and Elijah for being our moving crew & E'lana, Mark, Anika, Manny & Tara for all of your help the day of the party!  You blessed us so much.

I look forward to the day that Wisdom turns 16 and we get to share how special she was "even then."  God is so good!   Proverbs 3:15

Wisdom. Just for fun. VSCO. {Tacoma Portrait Photographer, Tacoma, WA}

Wisdom is on the move & giving me a complete run for my money.  She is learning how to crawl, which at the current moment looks a little bit like a exasperated breast stroke into the carpet with many, many breaks to breathe in between.  Can't be easy trying to drag a 23lb body across the room at 7 months.  Its crazy how quickly the time has gone. I remember last week we were napping on the couch beneath our living room window bathed in sunlight.  She had a simple routine which included: eating, sleeping, diaper changes and cooing every once in a while - on some special days we got half smiles while she dozed in and out of sleep.  Fast forward 7 months and we have a child who jumps and dances and sings, and swims into the carpet frequently. She has discovered the amazing sound her mouth can make, that she can rub her lips together and make the "zzzzzzzzzzz" sound and that we become captivated as she drenches us with her spit.  She has a little opinion now and prefer bananas over peas, nursing over bottles and "Dinosaur Train" over "Curious George."  She is full of joy and laughter, wakes us up every morning with her songs and immediately gets excited when she recognizes special voices on the phone (her most favorite her G'ma & her Aunt MM).  Its been a wild ride with this sweet girl, one that I am thankful I get to get on every day. Sunday morning as we lounged around, hungover from a wedding the previous day before (not from alcohol) I pulled out the camera and Wisdom and I danced!

Below a few shots from our 20 minutes session.

Its been so fun experiementing with different editing styles for our personal projects.  Below, images edited with VSCO LR Presets.
